[1] If there's one fitness fad I never could've guessed would catch on, it'd be working out with farm animals. Actually, it's more specific than that: doing yoga with farm animals. But right as everyone and their mother started talking about downward dogging with goats, I had the opportunity to chaturanga with a different kind of pet: a pig.

Points: chaturanga 俯卧撑式

[2] Yeah, you read that right—I did yoga with a pig. A mini micro pig, to be exact, while I was on a recent trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was named Tequila Barbie, and she scurried underneath my crow pose, wore a ridiculously cute tutu and hat, and even performed tricks on a Bosu ball. And even though I was pretty skeptical when I first heard about the class—I mean, how good of a workout could this actually be? —the more people told me about how popular the donation-based experience was (they regularly host between 100 and 170 participants), the more I wanted to get bendy with Babe (err, I mean Barbie).

Points: scurry v. 急跑 疾走
ridiculous adj. 荒谬的
crow pose 猫式
skeptical adj.怀疑的
bendy adj. 柔韧的

[3] As soon as I arrived at El Pinto, which hosts the YogaRita class in their open-air pavilion every week, the energy was infectious. Women of every shape and size were decked out in yoga gear, the mats were rolled out, and tequila was poured. I wasn't sure how many people would actually imbibe during the practice, but once I asked around it was obvious that it's more rare for someone not to. Plus, if your drink runs low, there are servers walking around ready to give you a refill.

Points: pavilion n.临时建筑物 休息室 露台
Infectious adj. 传染的
deck out 装饰 打扮
yoga gear瑜伽服
roll out 铺开
tequila 墨西哥烈酒
imbibe 喝酒(幽默用法)

[4] But before I moved into my first sun salutation, I had to know what gave yoga instructor Sydney Forestal the idea to create this unconventional concept.

Points: salutation n. 称呼 问候

[5] "It happened randomly one day when I wanted a margarita during class and I had people chant, 'When I say yoga you say rita. Yoga-rita, yoga-rita," she says. "[Soon after] I introduced drinking before, during, and after class into the yoga community...I love that the environment is something that you will not find in your average yoga class. Each one is full of energy and challenges, and you walk away with a memory that's definitely worth sharing."

Points: margarita 玛格丽特

[6] After my final savasana, I had to agree with Sydney on all counts. It was a yoga class like no other (and I've taken a lot of yoga classes). It was energetic and, maybe most surprisingly of all, full of challenges. Here's what I took away from the fun-filled practice.

Points: savasana 瑜伽中的挺尸式,也就是最后的休息啦

YOGA DOESN'T HAVE TO BE SO SERIOUS

[7] While yoga has definitely been promoted time and time again for its relaxing, mind-clearing benefits, it doesn't have to be done in a quiet, zen studio where nobody but the instructor talks to reap the rewards. YogaRita was more focused on fun, and Sydney encouraged a lot of interaction throughout the practice. Students are rewarded with fun medals and random trophies (think of the one you have tucked in a closet from that time you participated in youth soccer)—especially if you could take a sip of your margarita while conquering crow pose. And props like sombreros, cheerleader pom-poms, and tambourines were passed out for people to play with during their poses. Did it lend to the most hardcore yoga class I've ever taken? No. But it did lead to plenty of laughs—and that's a core workout in and of itself.

Points: zen n.禅
reap v. 收获 You reap what you sow 种瓜得瓜 种豆得豆
prop v. 支撑 支持
sombrero 墨西哥男人带的一种帽子
pom-pom (一战时候使用的) 机关炮
tambourine 铃鼓

YOU CAN LAUGH AND STILL GET IN A SOLID WORKOUT

[8] While I knew right away that I'd be walking out of this class with a full-blown smile, at the beginning I wondered whether I would actually be able to count YogaRita as my workout for the day. I started mentally toying with my calendar to see where I might be able to squeeze in a run or quick hotel-room circuit. But about halfway through the class, Sydney made it clear none of that would be necessary. Because even though she ramped up the silly antics, she refused to dial down the exercises. Between challenging balance poses and a core-blasting section that made my abs beg for mercy, she made sure we sweat our way through a quality workout—and that I woke up sore the next day.

Points: ramp up 增加 提高
antic adj. 古怪的
dial down 降低

THE CALORIE BURN REALLY DOESN'T MATTER

[9] After all, I was drinking a margarita while working out. Which basically means I was slurping down whatever I was sweating out. And while I wouldn't recommend doing that on a regular basis because, well, it's an easy way to waste your time and hinder seeing results, it's not a bad way to splurge every once in a while. After all, rather than sitting down to a calorie-heavy brunch with my girlfriends, we were all moving our bodies and bonding in a totally new way. Plus, laughing so much gave me a burst of energy that was unprecedented for me at that time in the morning. So if yoga-ing with a pig means I have more motivation to take care of my weekend errands, I'm all for it.

Points: slurp down 大吃
hinder v.阻碍
unprecedented adj. 空前的 前所未有的
errand n.差事 跑腿

YOU STILL HAVE TO WATCH YOUR ALCOHOL INTAKE

[10] Downing a margarita during my flow was definitely a fun experience, but I have to admit I was shocked that some of the participants were able to suck down two—some even three—margaritas throughout the practice. Of course, it was clear that those who did weren't particularly interested in getting the hardest workout of their lives that day (which is totally fine, BTW—not every workout has to be at 1,000 percent), but I still wonder how they attempted crow pose without face planting. Maybe it can be chalked up to practice makes perfect, but I struggle with those moves when I'm stone-cold sober. Call me a lightweight, but I knew if I wanted to have the full experience I needed to slow my roll. That meant one margarita for me—at least, until class was over—and deep breaths as I took on the more challenging movements.

Points: chalk up 记得取得;归咎于
stone-cold 冰冷如石的
sober adj. 清醒的

WORKING OUT WITH ANIMALS HAS REAL HEALTH BENEFITS

[11] Watching Tequila Barbie scurry around was a solid source of entertainment, that's for sure, but her very presence offered up a health bonus, too. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, animals can help lower blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and the amount of triglycerides floating around in your system. Triglycerides store fat that your body can then convert to energy, but if you have too many of them it can raise your risk of heart disease, according to the Mayo Clinic. So, simply watching Tequila Barbie roll out a yoga mat or skateboard between my friends and me as we moved through a warrior sequence could improve our health. Of course, we'd have to hang out with Tequila on a regular basis to really see an impact, but I'd say that's a solid incentive to go back, wouldn't you?

Points: cholesterol n.胆固醇
triglyceride n. 甘油三酸酯
incentive n. 动机 刺激
